FAQs

It depends on three things: whether you plan to raise external investment, whether you want to give employees equity, and how much annual compliance cost is proportionate to your revenue. A private limited company is effectively required if investors are in the picture, because institutional investors will not invest in an LLP and ESOPs need a company. An LLP carries much lighter annual compliance and suits professional practices, family businesses and service firms with no funding plans. An OPC gives a single founder limited liability without a second shareholder, but you will likely convert out of it once you add a co-founder. Converting later is possible but costs time and fees, which is why this conversation is worth having before you register, not after.

It is a recognition granted to eligible startups that unlocks a set of benefits, including concessional trademark filing fees, self certification under certain labour and environment laws, and access to specific government schemes.
